In dit artikel nemen we je mee in de wereld van sim only-abonnementen voor reizigers. Niet te technisch, gewoon handige tips waar je écht iets aan hebt als je binnenkort op pad gaat.
Wat is sim only ook alweer?
Een sim only-abonnement betekent dat je alleen betaalt voor je mobiele bundel: belminuten, sms en data. Je krijgt dus geen toestel, wat het abonnement meestal een stuk goedkoper maakt. Ideaal als je al een goede telefoon hebt en liever je geld uitgeeft aan leuke dingen – zoals een extra nachtje in dat charmante B&B in Toscane.
Waarom is sim only zo handig voor op reis?
Een sim only is voor buitenlandgebruik vooral aantrekkelijk vanwege de flexibiliteit en controle. Alle Nederlandse providers bieden sinds 2017 EU-roaming aan, wat betekent dat je in veel Europese landen gewoon je bundel kunt gebruiken zonder extra kosten.
Dat betekent: geen gedoe met lokale simkaarten, geen onverwachte roamingfacturen, en gewoon bereikbaar blijven met je eigen nummer. Even de weg zoeken op Google Maps, je hotel reserveren via Booking.com of een foto sturen via WhatsApp – allemaal zonder zorgen.
Waar moet je op letten voor vertrek?
- 1. Is je bundel geldig in het buitenland?
Binnen de EU is dat meestal geen probleem. Je gebruikt daar gewoon je Nederlandse bundel. Buiten de EU is een ander verhaal. Dan betaal je vaak per MB en dat kan hard oplopen. Ga je bijvoorbeeld naar Turkije, Thailand of de VS? Check dan of je provider wereldbundels aanbiedt of koop ter plekke een lokale simkaart.
- 2. Staat roaming aan op je telefoon?
Een kleine instelling, groot verschil. Ga naar je netwerkinstellingen en zorg dat ‘roaming’ is ingeschakeld. Geen zorgen: zolang je binnen de EU blijft en je bundel geldig is, brengt dit geen extra kosten met zich mee. Buiten de EU kun je roaming juist beter uitzetten, tenzij je bewust een buitenbundeloptie hebt gekozen.
- 3. Pas je bundel aan voor vertrek
Weet je dat je op vakantie meer data verbruikt dan thuis (hallo, Instagramstories en Google Maps)? Kies dan tijdelijk voor een grotere databundel. Bij veel sim only-aanbieders kun je je bundel maandelijks aanpassen. Zo blijf je flexibel én binnen budget.
Slimme bespaartips voor onderweg
Zelfs met een goede bundel is het slim om spaarzaam met je data om te gaan. Je wilt tenslotte je MB’s gebruiken om je weg te vinden, niet om automatische updates te installeren.

- Download kaarten van tevoren. In Google Maps kun je gebieden offline opslaan. Handig én zuinig.

Hoe zit het met bellen en voicemail?
Binnen de EU bel je ook gewoon uit je bundel. Maar let op: voicemail beluisteren in het buitenland kan extra kosten met zich meebrengen, vooral buiten Europa. Zet je voicemail dus uit als je die niet nodig hebt, of laat mensen via WhatsApp contact opnemen. Wel zo 2025.
En buiten Europa dan?
Ga je naar een land buiten de EU, dan is een sim only-abonnement minder vanzelfsprekend. Dan kun je kiezen uit:
- Een wereldbundel bij je provider. Handig voor korte reizen of als je op meerdere plekken bent.
- Een lokale simkaart. Vaak goedkoper, maar je hebt wel een simlockvrije telefoon nodig en soms wat geduld bij het activeren.
- Een eSIM. Steeds meer telefoons ondersteunen dit digitale alternatief. Zo kun je twee abonnementen tegelijk gebruiken, bijvoorbeeld je Nederlandse nummer én een lokale data-optie.

Soms lijken onze grootste reisavonturen financieel (net) buiten bereik. Sparen is een optie, maar wat als je niet langer wilt wachten om je passie te volgen? Een persoonlijke lening kan dan een interessante mogelijkheid zijn om die dromen sneller te realiseren. Maar wat houdt zo'n lening precies in en is het wel een verstandige keuze voor jouw reisplannen?
Reizen kost (vaak veel) geld

Mountainbiken is de perfecte manier om de natuur te verkennen, je hoofd leeg te maken en jezelf fysiek uit te dagen. Of je nu houdt van technische trails vol boomwortels en rotsen of liever lange, glooiende bospaden rijdt, er is altijd wel een route die bij jouw niveau past. In Nederland en daarbuiten zijn er talloze geweldige mountainbikeroutes te vinden. Pak je fiets, trek je helm strak en ontdek deze toffe plekken om te rijden!
Mountainbikeroutes in Nederland
Je hoeft echt niet naar het buitenland om mooie trails te rijden. Nederland heeft verrassend veel gave MTB-routes, van snelle singletracks tot uitdagende klimmetjes. De Utrechtse Heuvelrug is bijvoorbeeld een hotspot voor mountainbikers. Denk aan routes zoals die van Amerongen en Leersum, die bekendstaan om hun technische secties en snelle afdalingen. Ook in het zuiden van het land vind je fantastische trails. Denk aan in Zuid-Limburg, waar je bijna een buitenlands gevoel krijgt door de steile hellingen en smalle paadjes. Liever iets minder uitdagend? Dan zijn de routes op de Veluwe perfect, met lange, goed onderhouden tracks door de bossen.
Mountainbiken in het buitenland
Heb je zin in een echt avontuur? In landen zoals Duitsland, België en Frankrijk vind je geweldige mountainbike gebieden. De Ardennen zijn bijvoorbeeld ideaal voor een weekendje weg, met routes die je langs ruige rotsen en diepe dalen voeren. Duitsland heeft de Eifel en het Zwarte Woud, waar je eindeloos kunt klimmen en afdalen. Voor wie echt een uitdaging zoekt, is de Alpenregio dé plek. In gebieden zoals de Franse Alpen of het Oostenrijkse Tirol vind je spectaculaire downhill-trails en bikeparks waar je je grenzen kunt verleggen.
De juiste uitrusting voor elke rit
Een goede mountainbike is natuurlijk essentieel, maar er is meer waar je aan moet denken. Draag altijd een stevige helm en, als je technische trails rijdt, kniebeschermers en handschoenen. Een comfortabele, ademende outfit maakt het fietsen een stuk fijner, vooral als je langere tochten maakt. Vergeet ook niet een basis reparatieset mee te nemen: een multitool, een reserve binnenband en een fietspomp kunnen je dag redden als je een lekke band krijgt. En water! Niets is zo vervelend als dorst krijgen midden op een lange route.
Mountainbike verzekeren: nodig of niet?
Een mountainbike kan een flinke investering zijn, zeker als je een high-end model rijdt. En helaas zijn mountainbikes ook populair bij dieven. Daarom kan het verzekeren van je mountainbike best slim zijn. De meeste verzekeringen dekken diefstal, maar je kunt vaak ook kiezen voor een uitgebreidere dekking die schade door vallen of transport meeneemt. Let goed op de voorwaarden: sommige verzekeraars eisen bijvoorbeeld dat je fiets in een afgesloten ruimte staat als je hem thuis bewaart. Als je regelmatig in het buitenland fietst, is een verzekering met internationale dekking een aanrader.
Techniek en vaardigheden verbeteren
Mountainbiken is meer dan gewoon fietsen over een bospad. Hoe beter je techniek, hoe soepeler je rijdt en hoe leuker de trails worden. Wil je sneller en veiliger afdalen? Oefen dan je lichaamspositie en leer hoe je remmen optimaal gebruikt zonder grip te verliezen. Bochtenwerk is ook belangrijk: kijk altijd vooruit, houd je gewicht laag en leer je fiets te "leunen" in plaats van te sturen. En niet vergeten: hoe beter je conditie, hoe makkelijker de beklimmingen worden!
Respect voor de natuur en medefietsers
Mountainbiken is fantastisch. Maar het is belangrijk om rekening te houden met andere gebruikers van de paden. Blijf op de aangegeven routes, voorkom onnodige erosie en geef wandelaars en andere fietsers de ruimte. Veel MTB-trails worden onderhouden door vrijwilligers. Dus respecteer het werk dat zij doen door netjes te rijden en geen rommel achter te laten. Hoe beter we met de natuur omgaan, hoe langer we kunnen genieten van mooie routes!

[title] => Zanzibar en Dar es Salaam
[message] => Yesss, na een treinreis van 3 dagen kwamen we op 29 maart eindelijk aan in Dar es Salaam. De volgende dag vertrokken we met de boot naar Zanzibar. Om op het strand te komen waar we heen wilden moesten we eerst een taxi pakken. Onze taxi-chauffeur heette Yaya en bleek een wandelende lonely planet te zijn. Telkens onderbrak hij ons in een gesprek: "Excuse me"... En dan begon hij een heel verhaal over welk hotel waar zat, wat er op de menukaart stond en wat de prijzen waren. Ook wist hij alles te vertellen over dieren, bomen, de geschiedenis en politiek van Zanzibar en de manier waarop de locals koken. Een fijne bijkomstigheid was dat deze alwetende taxichauffeur ook nog erg goedkoop was. Hij liet ons een aantal hotels zien en we belandden uiteindelijk in Mbuyuni hotel. Tijd om uit te rusten op het strand! We sliepen in een hutje op een zandstrand, dit was erg mooi.
Op woensdag moesten we een dag naar Stonetown. De enige pinautomaten op het eiland bleken namelijk daar te zijn. Dus gingen we met de dalladalla (minibus) een dagje op en neer. Wat ons opviel is dat er veel meer islamitische invloeden te zien zijn in Tanzania. Ongeveer 50% van de bevolking is moslim en veel vrouwen dragen hele mooie felgekleurde hoofddoeken. Ook viel het op dat de mensen veel meer communiceren met elkaar terwijl ze aan het reizen zijn. In Zambia en Malawi was het altijd helemaal stil in de bus, terwijl hier mensen gezellig met elkaar kletsten.
In Stonetown aangekomen hebben we gepind en weer ons geld uitgegeven en de koffers een paar kilo zwaarder gemaakt met voornamelijk kleding:D.
De dag na onze shopping experience stond er weer wat leuks op de planning: we gingen zwemmen met dolfijnen en snorkelen! Met een speedbootje gingen we op zoek naar dolfijnen. Na een half uur varen dachten we dat we ze niet zouden gaan zien. Maar opeens zagen we ze opspringen! Onze captain riep: 'jump, jump, jump!'. We sprongen in het water en konden de dolfijnen van heel dichtbij bewonderen. Als je t zou willen had je de dolfijnen kunnen aanraken, maar dat vonden wij zielig.
Na 3 dagen Mbuyuni hadden we het oosten van Zanzibar wel gezien en vervolgden we onze weg naar het noorden. Hier zou over een paar dagen de beruchte Full Moon Party plaatsvinden in Kendwa Rocks. Met behulp van taxichauffeur Yaya vonden we een plek in de dorm van dit hotel, zodat we dichtbij de feestplek zouden zijn.
Voordat het feest op zaterdagavond losbarstte gingen we eerst nog duiken. Fabiënne deed drie duiken en haar derde duik was haar 100e duik. Sanne ging ook mee op de derde duik, maar voor haar was het de eerste duik. Het was een supermooie ervaring, al kon Sanne maar niet wennen aan het ademen door buisjes. Ze was blij toen ze weer kon ademen zonder hulp van een fles.
's Avonds was het eindelijk tijd voor de full moon party. Hier hebben we 3 Nederlandse expats ontmoet die werken in Dar es Salaam. Toen we gezellig met z'n allen aan het dansen waren viel de stroom uit... Typisch Afrikaans! Het zou volgens alle locals binnen 10 minuten worden opgelost, maar toen de muziek het 2 uur later nog niet deed zijn we maar naar bed gegaan. Pas de volgende avond deed de stroom het weer.
Op maandag kwam taxichauffeur Yaya ons weer ophalen en besloten we onze laatste dagen op Zanzibar in Stonetown door te brengen. Het is een leuk plaatsje met allemaal smalle straatjes en veel arabische invloeden. Je ziet hier goed het lokale leven. Zo gingen we op maandagavond bijvoorbeeld naar de food market. Hier eten veel locals en kan je typisch Zanzibari eten proberen. Zo hebben wij de Zanzibar pizza gegeten.
De pizza was erg lekker, maar de volgende dag was Fabiënne heel ziek. We hadden al een scooter gehuurd en ze dacht dat t wel meeviel, dus we besloten op pad te gaan. Helaas viel het toch niet mee en hebben we een iets kortere scooterronde gedaan dan gepland. We zijn naar een strand gereden buiten stonetown en we hebben de slave chambers gezien. Hier werden slaven verstopt die gesmokkeld werden nadat de slavernij was afgeschaft. Het was indrukwekkend om te zien.
Op woensdag was Fabiënne nog zieker en wilde ze het liefst in d'r bed blijven liggen. Sanne besloot de stad te gaan verkennen. Nadat ze ongeveer alle winkeltjes gezien had kwam ze langs een spa; erg verleidelijk! In de spa besloot ze een scrub te doen die vrouwen op Zanzibar krijgen in de week voordat ze gaan trouwen, zodat hun huid supermooi is voor de trouwdag.
We hadden van verschillende personen aangeraden gekregen om in Zanzibar op een spicetour te gaan. Hier krijg je op een spicefarm een rondleiding en zie je hoe kruiden groeien en hoe ze eruit zien. Ook mag je veel proeven. We vonden het allebei erg interessant maar wel veelste toeristisch: we werden rondgereden in een busje met een groep terwijl we steeds stopten om dingen te kunnen kopen waar we geen behoefte aan hadden. Wel leuk, maar niet echt een aanrader dus.
De volgende dag was het tijd om Zanzibar te verlaten en terug te gaan naar Dar es Salaam. De Nederlandse expats wilden ons hun leven laten zien en raadden ons aan om te verblijven in de peninsula. Dit is de expat en diplomaten wijk van Dar en erg westers. William, een van de expats, was lid van de yachtclub en hier werden we uitgenodigd. Het was een erg mooie plek en het voelde niet meer alsof je in een grote stad was. Na de yachtclub zijn we meegenomen naar verschillende cafeetjes en kroegen op de peninsula. We zijn het hele weekend in Dar op de peninsula gebleven en hier rondgeleid. Het was erg leuk om te zien hoe expats hier wonen.
Wat ook een hoogtepunt was van ons weekendje in Dar es Salaam is dat we kaas hebben gekregen en we 12 kilo lichter zijn aan spullen. William gaat bijna terug naar Nederland en bood aan om een koffer voor ons mee te nemen. Dit lieten we ons niet 2x zeggen en we hebben heel wat spullen achtergelaten. Ook had hij nog kaas over en deze mochten we hebben. Het is nu 3 dagen later en de kaas is op, zo erg misten we het dus!
Na Dar es Salaam gingen we naar Bagamoyo. Hier hebben we voor de laatste keer deze reis het strand en de zee gezien:( Toen we op de tweede avond in onze kamer kwamen, stond ons een vervelende verrassing te wachten. De laptop en mp3 van Fabiënne waren weg! Ze zaten in de oplader in een rugzak waar we een slotje met code op hadden gedaan. Iemand had geprobeerd het slotje open te maken en toen dit niet lukte gewoon de tas opengescheurd en alles meegenomen. We ontdekten dat ze de kamer waren binnengekomen omdat het slot op de deur niet goed was. Je kon gewoon binnen lopen als je kracht zette, ook al hadden we de deur wel op slot gedaan. Heel erg pech dus...
Omdat we nu naar de politie wilden gaan moesten we nog een dag extra in Bagamoyo blijven, waar eigenlijk niet zoveel te doen was. We hebben een middag door het stadje geslenterd en zijn vandaag verder gereisd naar het noorden. De reis hierheen in de minibus was ook erg interessant. Op een gegeven moment kwamen een aantal gevangenen binnen gelopen, waarvan 2 geboeid, met een politie agent en ze gingen naast ons zitten. We vonden het wel gek dat gevangenen gewoon in het openbaar vervoer worden gezet, maar gelukkig zijn we veilig aangekomen.
We zitten nu in een bergdorpje en gaan hier morgen een dag wandelen. Dit is hard nodig want we moeten trainen: over anderhalve week gaan we de Kilimanjaro beklimmen, de hoogste berg van Afrika! We laten jullie weten hoe het is gegaan:)

Weer ff een update! Ik ben de afgelopen drie weken in Malabo geweest, wat niet de meest fantastische plek is om te zijn...
Om te beginnen is het eiland op zich wel fantastisch mooi. Als je niet beter zou weten zou je denken dat het een eiland in de Caribieen is, maar de werkelijkheid is helaas anders...
De lui die daar de macht hebben maken er op zijn zacht gezegd een puinhoop van wat onder andere grootschalige fraude veroorzaakt. Alles draait daar om geld, dus bij bijna alles wat je doet willen ze geld zien wat ze ook zeer onvriendelijk maakt en agressief. Daarbij is iedereen op een of andere manier wel gelinkt aan de president familie of een hoge officier wat ze nog meer vertrouwen geeft en laat denken “wat wil jij me maken”. Ook wel grappig; als de president of een hoog pief zijn kont wil verplaatsen naar de airport of i.d. dan sluiten ze zonder moeite het hele centrum van Malabo af. Met een beetje pech zit je net aan de verkeerde kant en kun je geen kant meer op...
Al met al dus een vrij onvriendelijke en onrustige sfeer. Maar nogmaals, het eiland is super! Erg jammer dat het z’n puinhoop is. Maar aan de andere kant vond ik het ook wel leuk om zoiets is te maken. Daarbij ook grappig om wat Spaanse woorden op te pakken.
Na Malabo ben ik weer terug gevlogen naar Doula voor het weekend om vervolgens voor een meeting op maandag naar Point Noire in Congo te vliegen. Het weekend was – zoals inmiddels gewend van Douala – weer super. Zie de foto’s, die zeggen weer genoeg denk ik. Was in Kribi, z’n twee uur in zuidelijke richting van Douala.
Op de weg terug van Point Noire ben ik via Libreville gevlogen (je weet wel, waarik de eerste weken heb gezeten). Dat was een beetje zo geplanned omdat Frits ook (weer) in Libreville. Dus hebben we een gezellige avond gehad – en heb Frits weer op een nederlaag moeten trakteren met Poolen... Maar goed ;-).
En toen waren er nog maar 2,5 week over van mijn verblijf in Afrika dus is er besloten om die af te sluiten in Douala. Daar zijn op het moment van schrijven ook niet veel dagen meer van over omdat ik komend weekend al weer naar huis kom.... Onbegrijpelijk maar het is echt voorbij gevlogen.

de sneeuw smelt, de zon begint al wat vaker te schijnen en over twee weken wordt er een uur uit ons leven gestolen en is het alweer lente: genoeg reden dus om iets leuks te gaan doen :D.
het idee is om in April 1 dagje iets te gaan doen met z'n allen. We kunnen dus weer met z'n allen een pretpark binnenvallen, maar iets anders kan natuurlijk ook, alle ideeen zijn welkom.
Laat dus even weten of je zin hebt in iets leuks en laat je creatieve brein even werken....((ideaal studieontwijkendgedrag ;-).

[title] => Zanzibar en Dar es Salaam
[message] => Yesss, na een treinreis van 3 dagen kwamen we op 29 maart eindelijk aan in Dar es Salaam. De volgende dag vertrokken we met de boot naar Zanzibar. Om op het strand te komen waar we heen wilden moesten we eerst een taxi pakken. Onze taxi-chauffeur heette Yaya en bleek een wandelende lonely planet te zijn. Telkens onderbrak hij ons in een gesprek: "Excuse me"... En dan begon hij een heel verhaal over welk hotel waar zat, wat er op de menukaart stond en wat de prijzen waren. Ook wist hij alles te vertellen over dieren, bomen, de geschiedenis en politiek van Zanzibar en de manier waarop de locals koken. Een fijne bijkomstigheid was dat deze alwetende taxichauffeur ook nog erg goedkoop was. Hij liet ons een aantal hotels zien en we belandden uiteindelijk in Mbuyuni hotel. Tijd om uit te rusten op het strand! We sliepen in een hutje op een zandstrand, dit was erg mooi.
Op woensdag moesten we een dag naar Stonetown. De enige pinautomaten op het eiland bleken namelijk daar te zijn. Dus gingen we met de dalladalla (minibus) een dagje op en neer. Wat ons opviel is dat er veel meer islamitische invloeden te zien zijn in Tanzania. Ongeveer 50% van de bevolking is moslim en veel vrouwen dragen hele mooie felgekleurde hoofddoeken. Ook viel het op dat de mensen veel meer communiceren met elkaar terwijl ze aan het reizen zijn. In Zambia en Malawi was het altijd helemaal stil in de bus, terwijl hier mensen gezellig met elkaar kletsten.
In Stonetown aangekomen hebben we gepind en weer ons geld uitgegeven en de koffers een paar kilo zwaarder gemaakt met voornamelijk kleding:D.
De dag na onze shopping experience stond er weer wat leuks op de planning: we gingen zwemmen met dolfijnen en snorkelen! Met een speedbootje gingen we op zoek naar dolfijnen. Na een half uur varen dachten we dat we ze niet zouden gaan zien. Maar opeens zagen we ze opspringen! Onze captain riep: 'jump, jump, jump!'. We sprongen in het water en konden de dolfijnen van heel dichtbij bewonderen. Als je t zou willen had je de dolfijnen kunnen aanraken, maar dat vonden wij zielig.
Na 3 dagen Mbuyuni hadden we het oosten van Zanzibar wel gezien en vervolgden we onze weg naar het noorden. Hier zou over een paar dagen de beruchte Full Moon Party plaatsvinden in Kendwa Rocks. Met behulp van taxichauffeur Yaya vonden we een plek in de dorm van dit hotel, zodat we dichtbij de feestplek zouden zijn.
Voordat het feest op zaterdagavond losbarstte gingen we eerst nog duiken. Fabiënne deed drie duiken en haar derde duik was haar 100e duik. Sanne ging ook mee op de derde duik, maar voor haar was het de eerste duik. Het was een supermooie ervaring, al kon Sanne maar niet wennen aan het ademen door buisjes. Ze was blij toen ze weer kon ademen zonder hulp van een fles.
's Avonds was het eindelijk tijd voor de full moon party. Hier hebben we 3 Nederlandse expats ontmoet die werken in Dar es Salaam. Toen we gezellig met z'n allen aan het dansen waren viel de stroom uit... Typisch Afrikaans! Het zou volgens alle locals binnen 10 minuten worden opgelost, maar toen de muziek het 2 uur later nog niet deed zijn we maar naar bed gegaan. Pas de volgende avond deed de stroom het weer.
Op maandag kwam taxichauffeur Yaya ons weer ophalen en besloten we onze laatste dagen op Zanzibar in Stonetown door te brengen. Het is een leuk plaatsje met allemaal smalle straatjes en veel arabische invloeden. Je ziet hier goed het lokale leven. Zo gingen we op maandagavond bijvoorbeeld naar de food market. Hier eten veel locals en kan je typisch Zanzibari eten proberen. Zo hebben wij de Zanzibar pizza gegeten.
De pizza was erg lekker, maar de volgende dag was Fabiënne heel ziek. We hadden al een scooter gehuurd en ze dacht dat t wel meeviel, dus we besloten op pad te gaan. Helaas viel het toch niet mee en hebben we een iets kortere scooterronde gedaan dan gepland. We zijn naar een strand gereden buiten stonetown en we hebben de slave chambers gezien. Hier werden slaven verstopt die gesmokkeld werden nadat de slavernij was afgeschaft. Het was indrukwekkend om te zien.
Op woensdag was Fabiënne nog zieker en wilde ze het liefst in d'r bed blijven liggen. Sanne besloot de stad te gaan verkennen. Nadat ze ongeveer alle winkeltjes gezien had kwam ze langs een spa; erg verleidelijk! In de spa besloot ze een scrub te doen die vrouwen op Zanzibar krijgen in de week voordat ze gaan trouwen, zodat hun huid supermooi is voor de trouwdag.
We hadden van verschillende personen aangeraden gekregen om in Zanzibar op een spicetour te gaan. Hier krijg je op een spicefarm een rondleiding en zie je hoe kruiden groeien en hoe ze eruit zien. Ook mag je veel proeven. We vonden het allebei erg interessant maar wel veelste toeristisch: we werden rondgereden in een busje met een groep terwijl we steeds stopten om dingen te kunnen kopen waar we geen behoefte aan hadden. Wel leuk, maar niet echt een aanrader dus.
De volgende dag was het tijd om Zanzibar te verlaten en terug te gaan naar Dar es Salaam. De Nederlandse expats wilden ons hun leven laten zien en raadden ons aan om te verblijven in de peninsula. Dit is de expat en diplomaten wijk van Dar en erg westers. William, een van de expats, was lid van de yachtclub en hier werden we uitgenodigd. Het was een erg mooie plek en het voelde niet meer alsof je in een grote stad was. Na de yachtclub zijn we meegenomen naar verschillende cafeetjes en kroegen op de peninsula. We zijn het hele weekend in Dar op de peninsula gebleven en hier rondgeleid. Het was erg leuk om te zien hoe expats hier wonen.
Wat ook een hoogtepunt was van ons weekendje in Dar es Salaam is dat we kaas hebben gekregen en we 12 kilo lichter zijn aan spullen. William gaat bijna terug naar Nederland en bood aan om een koffer voor ons mee te nemen. Dit lieten we ons niet 2x zeggen en we hebben heel wat spullen achtergelaten. Ook had hij nog kaas over en deze mochten we hebben. Het is nu 3 dagen later en de kaas is op, zo erg misten we het dus!
Na Dar es Salaam gingen we naar Bagamoyo. Hier hebben we voor de laatste keer deze reis het strand en de zee gezien:( Toen we op de tweede avond in onze kamer kwamen, stond ons een vervelende verrassing te wachten. De laptop en mp3 van Fabiënne waren weg! Ze zaten in de oplader in een rugzak waar we een slotje met code op hadden gedaan. Iemand had geprobeerd het slotje open te maken en toen dit niet lukte gewoon de tas opengescheurd en alles meegenomen. We ontdekten dat ze de kamer waren binnengekomen omdat het slot op de deur niet goed was. Je kon gewoon binnen lopen als je kracht zette, ook al hadden we de deur wel op slot gedaan. Heel erg pech dus...
Omdat we nu naar de politie wilden gaan moesten we nog een dag extra in Bagamoyo blijven, waar eigenlijk niet zoveel te doen was. We hebben een middag door het stadje geslenterd en zijn vandaag verder gereisd naar het noorden. De reis hierheen in de minibus was ook erg interessant. Op een gegeven moment kwamen een aantal gevangenen binnen gelopen, waarvan 2 geboeid, met een politie agent en ze gingen naast ons zitten. We vonden het wel gek dat gevangenen gewoon in het openbaar vervoer worden gezet, maar gelukkig zijn we veilig aangekomen.
We zitten nu in een bergdorpje en gaan hier morgen een dag wandelen. Dit is hard nodig want we moeten trainen: over anderhalve week gaan we de Kilimanjaro beklimmen, de hoogste berg van Afrika! We laten jullie weten hoe het is gegaan:)

Weer ff een update! Ik ben de afgelopen drie weken in Malabo geweest, wat niet de meest fantastische plek is om te zijn...
Om te beginnen is het eiland op zich wel fantastisch mooi. Als je niet beter zou weten zou je denken dat het een eiland in de Caribieen is, maar de werkelijkheid is helaas anders...
De lui die daar de macht hebben maken er op zijn zacht gezegd een puinhoop van wat onder andere grootschalige fraude veroorzaakt. Alles draait daar om geld, dus bij bijna alles wat je doet willen ze geld zien wat ze ook zeer onvriendelijk maakt en agressief. Daarbij is iedereen op een of andere manier wel gelinkt aan de president familie of een hoge officier wat ze nog meer vertrouwen geeft en laat denken “wat wil jij me maken”. Ook wel grappig; als de president of een hoog pief zijn kont wil verplaatsen naar de airport of i.d. dan sluiten ze zonder moeite het hele centrum van Malabo af. Met een beetje pech zit je net aan de verkeerde kant en kun je geen kant meer op...
Al met al dus een vrij onvriendelijke en onrustige sfeer. Maar nogmaals, het eiland is super! Erg jammer dat het z’n puinhoop is. Maar aan de andere kant vond ik het ook wel leuk om zoiets is te maken. Daarbij ook grappig om wat Spaanse woorden op te pakken.
Na Malabo ben ik weer terug gevlogen naar Doula voor het weekend om vervolgens voor een meeting op maandag naar Point Noire in Congo te vliegen. Het weekend was – zoals inmiddels gewend van Douala – weer super. Zie de foto’s, die zeggen weer genoeg denk ik. Was in Kribi, z’n twee uur in zuidelijke richting van Douala.
Op de weg terug van Point Noire ben ik via Libreville gevlogen (je weet wel, waarik de eerste weken heb gezeten). Dat was een beetje zo geplanned omdat Frits ook (weer) in Libreville. Dus hebben we een gezellige avond gehad – en heb Frits weer op een nederlaag moeten trakteren met Poolen... Maar goed ;-).
En toen waren er nog maar 2,5 week over van mijn verblijf in Afrika dus is er besloten om die af te sluiten in Douala. Daar zijn op het moment van schrijven ook niet veel dagen meer van over omdat ik komend weekend al weer naar huis kom.... Onbegrijpelijk maar het is echt voorbij gevlogen.
Heb jullie allemaal gemist dus kijk er wel naar uit om ff naar huis te komen.

de sneeuw smelt, de zon begint al wat vaker te schijnen en over twee weken wordt er een uur uit ons leven gestolen en is het alweer lente: genoeg reden dus om iets leuks te gaan doen :D.
het idee is om in April 1 dagje iets te gaan doen met z'n allen. We kunnen dus weer met z'n allen een pretpark binnenvallen, maar iets anders kan natuurlijk ook, alle ideeen zijn welkom.
Laat dus even weten of je zin hebt in iets leuks en laat je creatieve brein even werken....((ideaal studieontwijkendgedrag ;-).

In de spa besloot ze een scrub te doen die vrouwen op Zanzibar krijgen in de week voordat ze gaan trouwen, zodat hun huid supermooi is voor de trouwdag.
We hadden van verschillende personen aangeraden gekregen om in Zanzibar op een spicetour te gaan. Hier krijg je op een spicefarm een rondleiding en zie je hoe kruiden groeien en hoe ze eruit zien. Ook mag je veel proeven. We vonden het allebei erg interessant maar wel veelste toeristisch: we werden rondgereden in een busje met een groep terwijl we steeds stopten om dingen te kunnen kopen waar we geen behoefte aan hadden. Wel leuk, maar niet echt een aanrader dus.
De volgende dag was het tijd om Zanzibar te verlaten en terug te gaan naar Dar es Salaam. De Nederlandse expats wilden ons hun leven laten zien en raadden ons aan om te verblijven in de peninsula. Dit is de expat en diplomaten wijk van Dar en erg westers. William, een van de expats, was lid van de yachtclub en hier werden we uitgenodigd. Het was een erg mooie plek en het voelde niet meer alsof je in een grote stad was. Na de yachtclub zijn we meegenomen naar verschillende cafeetjes en kroegen op de peninsula. We zijn het hele weekend in Dar op de peninsula gebleven en hier rondgeleid. Het was erg leuk om te zien hoe expats hier wonen.
Wat ook een hoogtepunt was van ons weekendje in Dar es Salaam is dat we kaas hebben gekregen en we 12 kilo lichter zijn aan spullen. William gaat bijna terug naar Nederland en bood aan om een koffer voor ons mee te nemen. Dit lieten we ons niet 2x zeggen en we hebben heel wat spullen achtergelaten. Ook had hij nog kaas over en deze mochten we hebben. Het is nu 3 dagen later en de kaas is op, zo erg misten we het dus!
Na Dar es Salaam gingen we naar Bagamoyo. Hier hebben we voor de laatste keer deze reis het strand en de zee gezien:( Toen we op de tweede avond in onze kamer kwamen, stond ons een vervelende verrassing te wachten. De laptop en mp3 van Fabiënne waren weg! Ze zaten in de oplader in een rugzak waar we een slotje met code op hadden gedaan. Iemand had geprobeerd het slotje open te maken en toen dit niet lukte gewoon de tas opengescheurd en alles meegenomen. We ontdekten dat ze de kamer waren binnengekomen omdat het slot op de deur niet goed was. Je kon gewoon binnen lopen als je kracht zette, ook al hadden we de deur wel op slot gedaan. Heel erg pech dus...
Omdat we nu naar de politie wilden gaan moesten we nog een dag extra in Bagamoyo blijven, waar eigenlijk niet zoveel te doen was. We hebben een middag door het stadje geslenterd en zijn vandaag verder gereisd naar het noorden. De reis hierheen in de minibus was ook erg interessant. Op een gegeven moment kwamen een aantal gevangenen binnen gelopen, waarvan 2 geboeid, met een politie agent en ze gingen naast ons zitten. We vonden het wel gek dat gevangenen gewoon in het openbaar vervoer worden gezet, maar gelukkig zijn we veilig aangekomen.
We zitten nu in een bergdorpje en gaan hier morgen een dag wandelen. Dit is hard nodig want we moeten trainen: over anderhalve week gaan we de Kilimanjaro beklimmen, de hoogste berg van Afrika! We laten jullie weten hoe het is gegaan:)

Weer ff een update! Ik ben de afgelopen drie weken in Malabo geweest, wat niet de meest fantastische plek is om te zijn...
Om te beginnen is het eiland op zich wel fantastisch mooi. Als je niet beter zou weten zou je denken dat het een eiland in de Caribieen is, maar de werkelijkheid is helaas anders...
De lui die daar de macht hebben maken er op zijn zacht gezegd een puinhoop van wat onder andere grootschalige fraude veroorzaakt. Alles draait daar om geld, dus bij bijna alles wat je doet willen ze geld zien wat ze ook zeer onvriendelijk maakt en agressief. Daarbij is iedereen op een of andere manier wel gelinkt aan de president familie of een hoge officier wat ze nog meer vertrouwen geeft en laat denken “wat wil jij me maken”. Ook wel grappig; als de president of een hoog pief zijn kont wil verplaatsen naar de airport of i.d. dan sluiten ze zonder moeite het hele centrum van Malabo af. Met een beetje pech zit je net aan de verkeerde kant en kun je geen kant meer op...
Al met al dus een vrij onvriendelijke en onrustige sfeer. Maar nogmaals, het eiland is super! Erg jammer dat het z’n puinhoop is. Maar aan de andere kant vond ik het ook wel leuk om zoiets is te maken. Daarbij ook grappig om wat Spaanse woorden op te pakken.
Na Malabo ben ik weer terug gevlogen naar Doula voor het weekend om vervolgens voor een meeting op maandag naar Point Noire in Congo te vliegen. Het weekend was – zoals inmiddels gewend van Douala – weer super. Zie de foto’s, die zeggen weer genoeg denk ik. Was in Kribi, z’n twee uur in zuidelijke richting van Douala.
Op de weg terug van Point Noire ben ik via Libreville gevlogen (je weet wel, waarik de eerste weken heb gezeten). Dat was een beetje zo geplanned omdat Frits ook (weer) in Libreville. Dus hebben we een gezellige avond gehad – en heb Frits weer op een nederlaag moeten trakteren met Poolen... Maar goed ;-).
En toen waren er nog maar 2,5 week over van mijn verblijf in Afrika dus is er besloten om die af te sluiten in Douala. Daar zijn op het moment van schrijven ook niet veel dagen meer van over omdat ik komend weekend al weer naar huis kom.... Onbegrijpelijk maar het is echt voorbij gevlogen.
Heb jullie allemaal gemist dus kijk er wel naar uit om ff naar huis te komen.

de sneeuw smelt, de zon begint al wat vaker te schijnen en over twee weken wordt er een uur uit ons leven gestolen en is het alweer lente: genoeg reden dus om iets leuks te gaan doen :D.
het idee is om in April 1 dagje iets te gaan doen met z'n allen. We kunnen dus weer met z'n allen een pretpark binnenvallen, maar iets anders kan natuurlijk ook, alle ideeen zijn welkom.
Laat dus even weten of je zin hebt in iets leuks en laat je creatieve brein even werken....((ideaal studieontwijkendgedrag ;-).
